Easy Homemade Apple Pie Granola Recipe

This yummy homemade apple pie granola recipe is perfect for a fun and healthy breakfast for kids this autumn!

Today’s recipe is for apple pie granola, which includes dried apple, walnuts, maple syrup and cinnamon for a delicious but healthy apple pie flavoured breakfast! You can of course make this recipe all the year around, but I think apple pie granola is particularly perfect for the autumn season.

We love making homemade granola, it makes a great weekend baking project with the kids (a nice change from baking cookies and cakes!) and is great to grab and go for a quick mid-week breakfast instead of cereal. You can serve it with milk, or with a dollop of Greek yogurt for a deliciously healthy breakfast.

As long as it is cooled completely and stored properly (in an airtight container, somewhere cool and dry), this delicious homemade granola will last for a couple of months, so you might want to make it in bulk to save time.  You just need to double or triple the recipe quantities to make a larger batch – the rest of the process remains the same.

I can’t guarantee it will last very long without all being eaten though – ours never does!

Apple Pie Granola

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp vegetable oil

2 Tbsp maple syrup

1 tsp ground cinnamon

200g oats

75g dried apple rings – chopped

50g walnuts – roughly chopped

Method:

Preheat your oven to 180°C (Gas mark 6/400°F).

Place the oil in a small bowl with the maple syrup and cinnamon, then stir well to combine.

Weigh out the oats into a large bowl.

Add the oil mixture and stir until the oats are coated and starting to clump together.

Tip the mixture onto a baking tray or roasting tin and spread out in one even layer.

Bake oats for 10-15 minutes, giving them a good stir half-way through to help them cook evenly.  Once the granola is cooked and golden, take out of the oven and leave to cool.

Once the granola is cool, tip into a large bowl.

Add dried apple pieces and chopped walnuts.

Mix together until combined.

Store the granola in an airtight jar or container – be sure to check that it is completely cool before storing otherwise it won’t stay crispy.

Serve with milk, or scatter over Greek yogurt and add chopped fresh apple for a delicious healthy treat!

Enjoy!
